Autosomal Diseases
Autosomal dominant conditions require only one mutation to show themselves. Autosomal recessive conditions require two mutations to show themselves. People with one gene mutations for disorders that require two to produce the disorder are said to be carriers of the disorder. X-linked disorders affect males and females differently. Males are affected more severely than females because males have two X chromosomes and males only have one. Sickle cell anemia is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. Down syndrome is not usually inherited. It is caused by trisomy 21 ( a chromosome abnormality occurs as a random event during the formation of reproductive cells in a parent). With turner's disease occurs neither regular nor mosaic turners is commonly inherited. Results from monosomy X occurs as a random event during the formation of reproductive cells in the affected person's parent.
